7/8 Kid Pitch
League Description: Players will continue to develop the skills introduced in T-Ball and now progress to practicing on-field fundamentals, including the excitement of playing games!
One of the in-game goals for this league is to help players develop as pitchers. Players are introduced to the skills needed for pitching and continue to develop throughout the season. The goal, by the end of the season, is that a player pitching no longer slows down the game, and can effectively “pitch”. There are no walks at this level. After ball four is thrown by a pitcher, the batter hits off of a tee.
After several years of developing this style of play, we have found that this is the best method to develop pitching, hitting (both off a tee and “live”), fielding, in-game situations for instructing and keeps the game moving so as to have a true game opportunity that progresses throughout the season.
Volunteer coaches teach the game. Rosters are primarily created based on schools attended. There are no standings or scorekeeping. Games are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays evenings.
Boys ages 7-8 on or before April 30 or entering 1st Grade
Deadline: March 1st
League Fee: $65.00
League only play: No tryout/evaluation required.
Tournament Team: Evaluation required. We plan to offer an 8U Tournament Team for 2021, and please indicate on registration if you are interested in participating. Once a coach is identified, a try-out date and process will be put in place (Approx. Jan/Feb). If we do not have enough 8U players, 7 year old players will be welcome to tryout for the 8U team. If you have already registered and are interested in the 8U Tournament team but didn’t indicate interest on registration, please email email@example.com. ALL Tournament players play league baseball as well.
Tournament Team: Suburban Athletics traveling baseball is offered for those players interested in competing at a higher level within their age group. Travel teams require a greater commitment in that each participant is expected to attend all practices, games, weekend tournaments and other team activities. Teams will typically have practices 1-2 times per week in addition to them playing on a league team 2 nights a week. The season will include 3-5 weekends over the course of the season. Tryouts are required for travel teams. The travel players may not all play equally at the discretion of the head tournament coach and Director of Baseball. Based on numbers of players on a tournament team, a “core/rotation” system may be used – please see website for more tournament team details. Tournament families are also expected to complete volunteer requirements for both league as well as additional volunteer requirement for tournament team participation.
